Modern wind energy is designed mainly for the conversion of mechanical wind energy into electricity directly in the place of manifestation of its natural kinetic properties. The effectiveness of such a conversion increases significantly with distance from the earth’s surface, but it significantly complicates the installation and operation of equipment and is associated with great risks. Placing a wind wheel and equipment having a kinematic connection with it at a considerable height from the earth’s surface causes irreparable damage to nature, leading to the mass death of flocks of migratory birds.
Currently known technical means are not adapted to control the flow of wind energy with the aim of supplying this energy from a great height using pipeline transport directly to the consumer of this energy, that is, to a wind wheel located at the level of the earth’s surface. The wind unpredictably changes its direction of distribution, preventing the possibility of transporting its energy through pipes from a certain place at a height to a predetermined place on the surface of the earth.
To solve the problem of transporting the flow of kinetic wind energy from sufficiently high altitudes to the surface of the earth, a prototype of a wind flow transducer has been developed that solves almost completely the above problems inherent in the aforementioned wind power plants.
The specified Converter is a vertical tower, made in the form of a stationary hollow cylinder or cone.
On the upper base of the tower is a rotary device for changing the direction of the wind flow from horizontal to vertical. On the periphery of the rotary device, in its upper part, receiving windows are appropriately distributed, which provide the necessary aerodynamic conditions for a smooth rotation of the horizontal wind flow from any direction down to the ground, with minimal loss of pressure.
The converter does not contain moving parts. The receiving windows of its rotary device are placed at a level that meets the condition for the most efficient operation of the wind generator.
The diameter of the lower base of the turntable corresponds to the diameter of the upper base of the tower. The diameter of the lower base of the tower corresponds to the diameter of the wind wheel. If the tower is made in the form of a cone, then the diameter of the upper base of such a tower can be 1.3-1.5 times smaller than the diameter of its lower base. It depends on the height at which the receiving windows of the rotary device are located. With an increase in this height, the specific power of the wind flow increases significantly, which creates the conditions for a noticeable decrease in the diameter of the rotary device.
It should not be forgotten that, despite the considerable size, the main part of the cavity of the tower does not contain any structures. For this reason, its cost exceeds reasonably the cost of towers that have found application in the energy sector.
The data obtained during the development of the existing pilot plant can be transferred to industrial units of almost any capacity in accordance with the theory of similarity. At the same time, all equipment, including the wind wheel, requiring constant or periodic maintenance, moves from the height at which the wind flow power is taken to the level of the earth’s surface. A wind wheel with a vertical axis of rotation, installed in the outlet section of the pipeline, is used. The diameter of this wheel corresponds to the diameter of the pipeline.
Attendants, together with related equipment, are located in a safe and properly equipped room below the plane of rotation of the wind wheel. Concrete fencing against the possible expansion of the blades of the wind wheel in an emergency and sound insulation may be provided.
When designing an industrial unit using data obtained at a pilot plant, additional research in the field of aerodynamics of air flows is not required. It is sufficient in the calculations to take into account the loss of several percent of the kinetic energy lost during a smooth 90 ° rotation of the air flow actually used to generate electricity.
The proposed wind flow converter is a highly reliable structure. It is able to serve a number of generations of people, without requiring any maintenance and costs, with the exception of the cost of its initial construction, as well as the preventive cleaning of dust and painting. It is preferable to cover its receiving windows with a coarse mesh to prevent the passage of migratory birds to the wind wheel that is harmful to them. It is also convenient to place the protective net directly in the cavity of the pipeline directed to the surface of the earth.
It is possible to place rotary blades in the cavity of the pipeline to regulate in a wide range of air flow intensity.
Spent wind flow from a wind generator operating with the described converter is conveniently used to ventilate mines, mines and cities. The rotary device can be used for these purposes separately from the wind generator.
The upper platform of the tower, where the power of solar radiation is much greater than at ground level, can be used to place the panels of a solar power station. For the same purposes, it is advisable to use the outer surface of the vertical pipeline, on which it is convenient to place solar panels with a total power exceeding the power of the wind wheel.
Work is underway on the preparation of materials for international patenting of new technical solutions, which are taken as a basis for creating a prototype of the described wind flow transducer.
